Blue Eagles Take Game One Of Doubleheader Against Redbirds

The Spartanburg Blue Eagles defeated the Ashville Redbirds 7-2 Friday afternoon in game one of a doubleheader at Switzer Stadium in Spartanburg South Carolina.

The Blue Eagles won behind the arm of former Dorman Cavalier Dylan Cole (2-1) (Furman) Cole allowed one earned run on four hits, while striking out four in 5 innings of work.

The Blue Eagles fell behind early as the Redbirds scored one run as a result of a throwing error by Blue Eagle shortstop Brody Greer (USC-Upstate) in the first inning. Ashville’s Jake Hill doubled the Redbird’s lead in the second inning when leadoff the inning with a solo homerun that landed over the left field fence.

However, facing a 2-0 deficit, Cole barred down on the mound, while the Blue Eagle hitters heated up at the plate. Cole proceeded to pitch scoreless third, fourth, and fifth innings ,while the Blue Eagle hitters scored one in the second inning, three in the third inning, and three in the fourth inning to take a 7-2 lead.

At the plate, the top three hitters in the Blue Eagle order led the way going a combined six for eleven with three RBI’s and five runs scored. Alex Dozier, (USC-Sumter) Tyler Miller, (USC-Upstate) and Josh Pless (Citadel) were the center of the third and fourth inning rallies, as all three either drove in a run or came around and scored their selves in both innings.

The seven runs was more than enough as reliever George Schafer came in and pitched scoreless sixth and seventh innings, limiting the Redbirds to zero hits.

Game two of the doubleheader will begin thirty minutes after the conclusion of game one.
