Lambert Has High Hopes For Blue Eagles' Season

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Blue Eagle right fielder Ryan Lambert was one run away from claiming back to back NCCAA national championships this past season for the Bluefield Rams.

“I wish we could have brought home that title, but it was a great season anyway,” said Lambert. “We won a school record 41 games and I couldn’t have asked for a better group of guys”. Lambert, who was a senior this past year but is appealing for one more years’ eligibility, was a major part of Bluefield’s success over the last two years.

Lambert batted .319, hit six homeruns and drove in a team high 48 RBI’s in route to a national championship in 2009. In 2010, the Rams won more games and Lambert bettered his overall numbers, but fell just short of a national title when North Greenville University defeated them 7-6 in game that went into 12 innings before the outcome was decided.

Lambert ended the 2010 year with a .354 batting average, 9 homeruns, and a team leading 54 RBI’s again. Lambert obviously has a knack for getting clutch hits because in 2009 and 2010 he was not among the top 3 on his team in batting average or homeruns, yet both years still managed to lead the team in RBIs.

Lambert attributes his timely hitting to being able to hit the ball to all areas of the ballpark. “I just hit the ball where it’s pitched. I’m comfortable going opposite field or pulling the ball”.

Lambert says the best thing about him as a defender is his speed and his arm strength. Lambert must possess pretty good speed as he led the Rams in 2009 in triples with 5.

As the summertime approaches, Lambert must change his Bluefield jersey for a Blue Eagle Jersey. Both teams have the color blue in their names and Lambert hopes both seasons’ are as similar in success.

“I just want to get better as player and get better using a wooden bat,” said Lambert when discussing his expectations. “Also, just like coach Mathis said, it would be great to get a ring, especially since I missed out on one earlier in the year”.

I think everyone in the Blue Eagle organization is rooting for Lambert to get at least one championship ring in 2010.
