SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Spartanburg Blue Eagles had plans to open their season Tuesday night in Central, South Carolina against the Carolina Chaos. Mother Nature had other plans as it continually rained over Central all day Tuesday forcing the Blue Eagles and Chaos to postpone their opening night.

“I hate we didn’t get the first game in tonight”, said general manager Daniel Assey. “But it is exciting we get to play our first game in front of the home crowd in Spartanburg”.

The Blue Eagles, a team constructed with a number Spartanburg locals, originally planned on having its home opener at Wofford College at 7 pm on Wednesday night. However, now they will host the Chaos in a doubleheader, playing the first game at 5 pm on Wednesday, with the second starting thirty minutes after the conclusion of the first.

Gus White, a rising junior from Wofford College takes the hill in the first game against the Chaos on Wednesday. This past season for Wofford, White recorded a 2 and 5 win loss record with a 7.49 era. White is looking forward to a clean slate which is exactly what summer baseball brings.

The second game will showcase Former Dorman high standout Dylan Cole as he will take the mound shortly after the first game. Cole, a rising sophomore for the Furman Paladins, had a very successful freshman year as hitter with 8 homeruns, 31 RBI’s, and a .258 batting average. Cole usually served as the Paladins catcher, but in limited action as a pitcher, he did have a reasonable 4.50 ERA.

Cole wants to develop as a pitcher this summer and head coach Ryan Thomas is giving him an opportunity as the Blue Eagles are still waiting for four pitchers to arrive from teams who are still in postseason play. The Blue Eagles have three players coming from number 4 ranked Coastal Carolina, one player from BYU, and one player from The Citadel.

Even after these five players arrive, the Blue Eagles will still be highlighted by numerous local guys. There are eight guys from Wofford and USC Upstate that make up the 20 man roster. Additionally, besides those eight, there are another three players that attended high school in the Spartanburg area.

This year’s team definitely deserves the Spartanburg logo that is implanted on the chests of their uniforms.
